A Happy Happy Birthday

Hi Friends.

I come to you today another year older and another year wiser, hopefully. I am 27 as of Saturday. I think it's going to be a good year.

David and my sweet family and friends made me feel so special for my birthday. We didn't do anything really big (we had a cross country meet this weekend), but we did lots of little things that made it a very happy birthday.

David surprised me by making an appointment for me to get my hair cut on Thursday night. Whoop! Whoop! Fancy new haircut....check! I always put off getting my hair cut because it's kind of pricey. But my hair stylist is the best...the best I tell you. He's worth every penny. But, unfortunately, he only gets my pennies about twice a year. I love you, Gary.

Thanks for the birthday cut, Dave.

On Saturday, my actual birthday, we had a cross country meet in the morning and then we were going to Fitzgerald to see my family that afternoon. I got flowers and a gift card to Barnes and Noble when I woke up. We stopped by Chick-fil-a for breakfast on the way to the meet. Niiiice.

On our way home from the cross country meet, we stopped at a store called Horse Town and I got to pick out Cowboy Boots! What a great surprise! I have wanted a pair of cowboy boots for several years. I was so excited and I found the perfect pair, thanks to a Horse Town employee that looked like he walked straight out of Lonesome Dove. I love them.

Jeggings here I come.

That afternoon, we went to Fitzgerald to see my family. Nana made us birthday supper and lunch the next day. (David's birthday is very soon, so we celebrated both birthdays this weekend.) We had my favorite soup on Saturday night and fried chicken on Sunday. There was a birthday pound cake for me and a birthday buttermilk pie for David. And boiled peanuts. And cookies. And squash casserole. And. And. And.

I ate so much food that I had to put on stretchy pants. It was so good.

I received lots of sweet cards and presents from our family and friends, but there is one more gift I want to show you.

It is big.
It is random.
It is red.
It is vintage.
It has perfect patina.

Any guesses?

Yeppers! It's the big "A." Mama and Daddy got it for me.

Daddy thinks it's welded poorly.
My brother thinks it's crooked.
David thinks it's weird.

I love it.

When I asked Mama to go back to the store and buy it for me after I sought your advice, she told me that she went by the store, and someone had already bought the "A" at a sidewalk sale.

I was so sad. I mourned. I couldn't even tell you guys about it, because I was depressed.

Then I was angry. I thought that maybe one of you blog people went and bought the "A" right out from under me. I almost wrote a confrontational post demanding that the perpetrator return the "A" immediately.

But then I got ahold of myself.
Besides, I was too sad for confrontation. And I'm not really confrontational any way. It's not my style. I do not confront.
I tried to forget about it. Days past. Life went on....a little sadder and a lot less rusty red.

Then after our birthday dinner, Mama brought the big "A" out of hiding. She is a dirty rotten liar.
She said she didn't lie. She said that someone did buy it at a sidewalk sale. That someone was her.

Alright, fine. I'm just glad that the "A" has come home with me. I can't wait to show you were it's gonna go.

Thanks, everyone, for making me feel so loved on my birthday.

27 is going to be good. I can feel it.
Mel
